Almost every home charger sold in the UK is 7.4kW, so the real differences are smart tariff scheduling, solar integration, warranty and how you pay, not charging speed.

Ohme Home Pro
Automatic smart tariff scheduling that pairs perfectly with Intelligent Octopus Go
If you're on Intelligent Octopus Go, EDF or any tariff with a cheap overnight window, the Ohme Home Pro is the best charger for you. It schedules charging to hit the cheapest rate without you having to think about it. Worth knowing: Intelligent Octopus Go now caps discounted smart charging at 6 hours in any 24 (at 8p/kWh), and the Ohme's scheduling works within that allowance. It has a colour LCD screen and a built-in 4G SIM, so it doesn't depend on your home Wi-Fi. There's a Solar Boost mode, but if getting the most from your panels is the priority, the Zappi is the better fit.
Myenergi Zappi
Eco+ mode sends 100% of your spare solar straight to your car
If you have or plan to get solar panels, this is the obvious pick: no other charger diverts surplus solar into your car as effectively. Eco+ mode charges only from spare solar and pauses when a cloud passes. It also works natively with Myenergi's Libbi battery, covered in our battery storage comparison. The price is for the unit only; installation is arranged separately, and most homes pay about £1,000–£1,200 all in.
Pod Solo 3S (formerly Pod Point)

Pod Point rebranded as Pod in May 2025, and the Solo 3S is one of the most widely fitted home chargers in the UK. It isn't the flashiest charger here, but it's proven at scale. You get a simple Wi-Fi app, a solar-aware charging mode (not full diversion like the Zappi), Which?-endorsed standard installation in the price, and Pod Rewards, which pays you for smart charging off-peak. Untethered is £999; tethered, with a 6.5m cable attached, is £1,049. The warranty is 3 years if you buy outright and 5 if you subscribe to Pod Drive.

Andersen A3
UK-made, 247 finish options, hidden cable: designed to disappear into your home
Designed and made in the UK, with metal or real-wood fronts and a cable that tucks away inside the unit, so it looks like part of the house, not an appliance bolted to the wall. The 7-year warranty is the longest of any charger here, and solar charging is included as standard. It's a premium option: £995 is the unit price for the basic metal finish, wood fronts start around £1,195, and a fully installed A3 starts at about £1,430.
Pod Drive vs Buying Outright: Which Costs Less?
Pod is the only charger here you can pay for monthly. With Pod Drive you own the charger from the day it's installed, and pay a subscription that covers the hardware, installation and extra cover. Here's how the two routes compare for a tethered Solo 3S:

Our take: buying outright is £175 cheaper over three years (£225 if you choose the untethered charger). Pod Drive is worth it if you'd rather not find £1,000 at the same time as paying for a new car, or if you value the two extra years of warranty and the 48-hour repair promise. Smart charging rewards of up to £100 a year can offset part of the cost either way.
Two things to know before you subscribe: if you cancel within the 36 months, you pay the remaining monthly payments. And after 36 months the plan carries on month by month until you cancel it, so set a reminder. If you move house, you can end the plan (paying what's left) or transfer to a new charger on a fresh 36-month term.

The OZEV Grant: Who Qualifies
The EV chargepoint grant pays 75% of the cost, up to £500 per socket, but only for people who rent their home or own a flat and have private off-street parking, plus some households with on-street parking and an approved cross-pavement solution. Homeowners in houses have not been eligible since 2022, whatever a charger's marketing implies. The scheme is open until 31 March 2027.
If you don't qualify, a monthly plan like Pod Drive or an installer's 0% finance spreads the cost instead.
