OZEV grant — £500 off your home charger
The government's OZEV grant gives renters, flat owners and landlords £500 off the cost of a home EV charger. Homeowners with a driveway are not eligible but can still install a charger at full cost — typically £800–£1,200 before any grant.
Why home charging makes such a big difference
- →Public rapid chargers cost 60–80p/kWh — home charging costs just 27p/kWh
- →A 7kW home charger fully charges most EVs overnight in 6–8 hours
- →On a time-of-use tariff like Octopus Go you can charge for as little as 7p/kWh overnight
- →Add solar panels and you can charge for near-free during daylight hours
- →Even vs a petrol car, home-charged EVs save £1,000+ per year on fuel
Home charging cost based on 27p/kWh standard electricity rate. Public charging based on 70p/kWh average rapid charger rate. Petrol equivalent based on 40mpg, 145p/litre. Solar charging assumes 30% of annual mileage charged from solar at near-zero cost. Home charger install cost used for payback: £1,000 mid-range installed. Actual costs vary by vehicle, usage pattern, tariff and installer. This tool provides estimates only and is not a quote.
