Common Questions

Is this service free?

Yes. Getting a quote costs you nothing and there is no obligation to go ahead. We earn a commission from Blue Ape Renewables, or from the installer you are matched with, if you do.

Who are Blue Ape Renewables?

Blue Ape Renewables is the installer we work with. It is MCS-certified and NAPIT-accredited, and fits solar panels, home batteries, air source heat pumps and EV chargers across England, Wales and Scotland. You fill in their form yourself, and they contact you directly.

What happens if I compare quotes instead?

You fill in one short form and MCS-certified installers near you get in touch with their quotes. It suits you if you would like to compare a few prices before choosing.

What is MCS certification?

MCS is the UK quality scheme for renewable energy installers. You need an MCS-certified installer to claim the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for a heat pump, and most Smart Export Guarantee tariffs need an MCS-certified installation before they pay for the solar power you export.

Can I get a grant?

For a heat pump, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500, or £9,000 for homes heated by oil or LPG on applications made up to 31 March 2027. Insulation can be free under ECO4 if you qualify, until the scheme closes in December 2026. Batteries and solar panels are zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027.

What about insulation or air conditioning?

For insulation, start with our ECO4 eligibility checker, as it could be free. For air conditioning, our air conditioning installation guide covers costs and how to find an installer.

I rent. Can I still use this?

Most installations need the owner's permission, so speak to your landlord first. If you rent, plug-in solar, portable power stations and portable air conditioners need no installation, though you should still check your tenancy agreement before fixing anything to the building. Our guide to balcony solar for renters explains more.
