Why this site exists
Straight Answers on What a Home Upgrade Costs
Home energy in the UK is hard to buy well. Installers quote savings that assume a south-facing roof and perfect weather. Product listings claim cooling or heating power that their own wattage cannot deliver. Grant pages are written for the people who administer the schemes, not the people applying.
Cool Power Co exists to give you the full figure before you spend anything: what something costs to buy, what it costs to run at today's electricity price, whether it is in stock, and when it is not worth the money yet. That covers small purchases such as dehumidifiers and heated airers, and large ones such as solar panels, batteries and heat pumps.
How we work
How a Guide Gets Made
Six rules we work to on every guide, whether it is about a £60 airer or a £10,000 battery.
Start from the primary source
Rules, grants and energy prices come from Ofgem, GOV.UK and each scheme's own documents. Product figures come from the manufacturer's listing or datasheet.
Cost everything the same way
Running costs are the product's rated power multiplied by the Ofgem price cap, 26.32p per kWh from October 2026, so one guide can be compared with another.
Check the claim against the maths
If a listing claims more cooling or heating than its power draw allows, we say so. Our portable air conditioner guide runs this check wherever the maker publishes the power draw.
Date the stock and price checks
Buying guides show the date they were last checked or updated. Sold-out products are marked as sold out instead of being left with a buy button.
Say what we could not verify
Where a maker does not publish a figure, we write that it is not published and we do not guess. Where a number is our own estimate, the page says so.
Correct it when it changes
Prices, grants and rules move often. When they do, we go back and change the page. If you spot something wrong, tell us and we will check it against the source.

We do not test products in a lab
Our buying guides are desk research. They are built from manufacturers' specifications, retailer listings, owner reviews and independent tests published by others. When we rely on someone else's test, we name them.
We do not install anything
We are not installers and we do not employ any. If you ask for quotes, your enquiry goes to a partner that matches it with installers in your area. Check an installer's MCS, TrustMark or F-Gas registration yourself before you sign.
We do not give financial or legal advice
Our calculators and payback figures are estimates based on typical UK homes and current prices. Your roof, your tariff and your usage will change the answer.
We cannot hold a price for you
Prices and stock are correct on the date shown on each guide. Check the retailer's page before you buy.
Who runs it
A Note From the Founder
I grew up in Cambridge, where the winters were cold and the heating bill went up every year. Later I lived in Mexico and Thailand, where air conditioning is a necessity, and I watched solar power go from a novelty to an ordinary part of daily life in both countries. I now live in Spain, where the hard part is keeping a home bearable in summer.
Back in the UK, my mum's house overheats in summer and loses heat all winter. Millions of British homes are the same. People are paying too much to heat and cool them, they know better options exist, and they cannot tell which ones are worth the money.
Cool Power Co is my attempt to answer that properly. I run it on my own, and nothing is published until I have read it and the figures trace back to a source. When a scheme has stricter rules than the headlines suggest, or a product claim does not match the manufacturer's own datasheet, the page says so.

The site is free to use. It earns money in three ways.
Affiliate links
Many product links are affiliate links, through Amazon, the Awin network and some manufacturers directly. If you buy through one, we earn a commission and you pay the same price. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
Quote requests
When you ask for installer quotes through the site, we may receive a fee from the partner that matches your enquiry with installers. The form tells you who will contact you.
Sponsored features
If a brand ever pays for a review or feature, it will be labelled as sponsored at the top of the page.
What commission changes, and what it does not
Commission can affect which products we cover first and how prominently an in-stock product is shown. It does not change what we write about a product. Our guides list the drawbacks, mark items that are sold out, and point to a cheaper option when one does the same job, including when we earn less from it.
