Every item is portable, reversible, and moves with you when you do. We've put them in the order that makes financial sense — buy step 1 first, add the others as budget allows.
Step 1 — Balcony solar kit (the only essential purchase)

⚡ The connection — the bit the adverts skip
From 27 August 2026, under SI 2026/848, a compliant plug-in solar kit can be self-installed via a standard socket with no electrician needed for the connection itself. The catch: the specific product must be certified and listed as "Compliant" (not just "submitted") on the ENA Connect Direct register before you can legally self-install it — always check the register for the exact kit you're buying rather than assuming. If your kit isn't yet listed as compliant: a qualified electrician can still connect it now — budget £150–£300 one-off. This remains the safe, legal route for any product not yet confirmed compliant.
G98 form: notify your network operator within 28 days of connecting, self-installed or electrician-fitted. Free, simple, your electrician usually handles it if they do the connection. Not planning permission — nobody inspects your balcony.
Step 2 — Portable power station

⚠️ Important: the battery legal position
SI 2026/848 explicitly covers solar-only plug-in systems — plug-in batteries that discharge into your home circuits are excluded from the new rules entirely and will continue to require professional connection for the foreseeable future. The DELTA 2 avoids this issue completely because it's a standalone portable unit, not grid-connected. It powers appliances directly from its own outlets rather than feeding your home circuits — which is why it's the right battery choice for this bundle right now.
Step 3 — Portable AC (summer comfort)

Step 4 — Smart thermostat
A smart thermostat lets you schedule heating to run during your solar generation window — noon to 3pm rather than 6pm when you're drawing from the grid. Small behaviour change, meaningful saving over a full year. Both options below are renter-friendly: reversible installation, no structural changes.
⚠️ Renters: Radiator thermostats are the safest choice — they replace only the valve head, need no wiring or boiler access, and unscrew in seconds when you move. They give room-by-room control but don't fire the boiler themselves, so they work alongside your existing thermostat rather than replacing it. Step 5 — Energy monitor
The missing piece that makes everything else work harder. If you have a smart meter, a clip-on energy monitor shows your real-time consumption alongside the EcoFlow app's generation data — the complete picture.
